Defense-Type Beyblade X Beys
Defense-type Beyblade X beys are engineered to absorb hits and hold the center. Defense-type Beyblade X tops are heavy and rounded to deflect attacks and resist knockouts. They aim to outlast aggressive opponents by staying in the stadium while attackers burn out. This page lists all 35 Defense-type beys in the Beyblade X line, with their blade, ratchet, bit, weight and spin direction, plus where to buy each on Amazon.

Which Defense Type Bey Should You Buy First?
If you want one defense type Beyblade X bey to start with, KnightShield 3-80N (BX-04, from the July 2023 launch wave) is the natural pick: a rounded shield blade, a forgiving Needle bit and a standard 3-80 ratchet, with no gimmick to learn around.
A Defense type comes down to mass, a smooth blade outline that deflects hits instead of trading them, and a bit that resists being pushed around. Against an attack type opponent, absorb the rush, stay inside the stadium, and win on survival.
For a gift or an easy second bey, WizardArrow 4-60N (BX-08) pairs the same dependable Needle bit with a lower 4-60 ratchet, which keeps the combo stable for newer players.
Heaviest Defense Beys Compared
More mass means more inertia: a heavy combo sheds less spin per hit and is harder to push toward the pockets. Every weight below is for the complete bey (blade, ratchet and bit together), so part of any gap between two entries can come from the bit rather than the blade. The heaviest documented defender is DranBuster 3-70N at 44.9 grams, the lightest ShinobiShadow 1-80MN at 37.7 grams; treat sub gram gaps as noise and choose on blade shape and bit first.
| Bey | Weight | Ratchet | Bit |
|---|---|---|---|
| DranBuster 3-70N | 44.9 g | 3-70 | Needle |
| WyvernHover 2-80GN | 44.3 g | 2-80 | Gear Needle |
| Antler Stag B 2-60HN | 44.2 g | 2-60 | High Needle |
| LeonCrest 7-60GN | 44.1 g | 7-60 | Gear Needle |
| KnightShield 3-80N | 43.9 g (second mold) | 3-80 | Needle |
| SharkEdge 4-80N | 43.5 g | 4-80 | Needle |
| ViperTail 3-80HN | 43.4 g | 3-80 | High Needle |
| KnightMail 3-85BS | 43.4 g | 3-85 | Bound Spike |
Defense Bits Explained: Needle, High Needle, Spike, Dot and the Rest
Needle (N) is the standard defensive tip: a fixed point with enough surrounding friction to hold position without draining spin. High Needle (HN) is the taller version of the same tip, seen on Knife Shinobi 4-80HN, ViperTail 3-80HN and WhaleWave 4-70HN.
Spike (S) anchors harder into the stadium floor, driving RhinoHorn 3-80S, TyrannoBeat 3-60S and WyvernGale 2-60S; KnightMail runs Bound Spike (BS), the evolved version of the same idea.
Dot (D) is the stamina friendly end of defense: the BX-35 wave leaned on it across BlackShell 4-60D, UnicornSting 3-70D and ViperTail 5-70D.
The rest are specialists. Gear Ball on KnightLance 4-60GB swaps the point for a rounded ball, the freer moving take; Metal Needle on ShinobiShadow 1-80MN keeps the classic point but renders it in metal. Gear Needle, Under Needle, Wedge and Gear Point complete the list.
The Knight Line: KnightShield, KnightLance and KnightMail
KnightShield set the template for the line: a rounded, fortress like blade on a plain Needle bit. KnightLance 4-80HN followed as BX-13 (August 2023), a lance shaped take on a High Needle at 42.1 grams, later reissued with a 4-60 Gear Ball (BX-24).
KnightMail 3-85BS closed the arc as UX-10 in November 2024 with the tallest ratchet in the line (3-85) and a Bound Spike bit: the newest version of the shield concept, better suited to players who already know their matchups than to a first purchase.
Completing a Defense Setup: Launcher and Stadium Notes
Every defense bey on this page is Right-Spin, so any standard launcher fits. Winders are simple and consistent, while a string launcher gives finer control over launch power, useful for the soft, centered launches defense favors; the launchers hub compares both styles.
Defense combos win long matches, so practice full length battles in a proper arena; the overview of all Beyblade X stadiums covers the official Takara Tomy lineup.
Then study the stamina type beyblade side of the triangle: defense beats raw aggression more reliably than it outlasts a dedicated spin finisher.
